"The number of 14-24 year-olds in England who are self-harming so seriously that they require hospitalisation has nearly doubled in the last 10 years. 2000/2001 it was 22,000 - 2010/2011 it was 38,000!!! And what about the many more who never get to hospital?

What a system - we have inspectors and league tables to drive the teachers crazy - the 11+ (still exists in quite a few places), SATs, GCS...Es and A levels to drive the kids crazy and make over half of them feel useless - and then when it's too late we start talking about the need for 'healthy schools', 'well-being' and 'happiness in schools', and that 'we must do something' about youth unemployment.

It's all enough to make any intelligent person self-harm with frustration!!! Where is my nearest A&E department? Whoops they've all been closed in the cuts."
